“At Land’s Edge,” the new LP from Roger + Ben Miller’s band, M2, is now available. Copies (w/ download card) will be sold at shows or online from Feeding Tube Records.
M2 is two Miller Brothers, Roger and Benjamin.
Roger (Boston: Mission of Burma, Alloy Orchestra, etc), plays prepared piano, with bolts and alligator clips stuck on and between the piano’s strings, plus a few specific techniques of his own.
Benjamin (NYC: Glenn Branca Ensemble, Sensorium Saxophone Orchestra, etc), plays his unique “Multiphonic Guitar” which involves multiple pickups, preparations, and electronic devices modifying sounds after the fact.
The music is entirely improvised, with bravura technique sublimated for ensemble sound. Both ambient and experimental, it is the gradual, occasionally sudden, shifting and interplay between the two brothers that defines their sound. Between the two of them, the usual sounds of a piano/guitar duo will thoroughly be avoided.
