Sproton Layer, Roger Miller’s former band, gets German Re-Issue

German label World IN Sound has re released the Sproton Layer album With Magnetic Fields Disrupted, originally recorded by Roger Miller and his two younger brothers, Laurence and Benjamin, in 1970. Along with a remastered CD, the re release features a 20 page full color booklet, detailing the history of the band, photos, journal entries, and drawings.

Sproton Layer was a psychedelic rock group from Ann Arbor, Michigan, thriving primarily between 1968 and 1970. Originally called “Freak Trio,” the band found their niche after becoming addicted to Pink Floyd’s Piper at the Gates of Dawn, which greatly influenced their psychedelic rock sound. Michael Azerrad described the recordings as, “a valuable document of an amazing band that sounded like Syd Barrett fronting Cream.” Though the boys were only 16 – 18 when this album was recorded, they crafted a mature experimentation into the realm of psych rock.
